Navigating Adolescent Literacy: Strategies for Administrators
Tuesday February 25, 2025 10:15am - Wednesday February 26, 2025 4:15pm MST
This webinar, hosted by Lexia® Senior Education Advisor Kerri Larkin and JerseyCAN Executive Director Paula White, provides district administrators with actionable strategies to drive adolescent literacy transformation, grounded in the science of reading. The presenters dive into the unique assets and challenges adolescent learners bring to the classroom, including their rich background knowledge and social-emotional complexities. While early literacy often garners the most attention, Larkin and White emphasize the critical importance of supporting adolescent readers as well, focusing on skills like comprehension, critical thinking, and vocabulary.  Larkin and White explain how school-level educators need district support to effectively instruct these older students. They discuss the common challenges adolescent learners face, such as foundational gaps left by earlier instruction methods, and how addressing these gaps in a developmentally appropriate way is key. The webinar features success stories from districts across the country that have embraced Structured Literacy and evidence-based practices to make meaningful gains in adolescent reading proficiency.  The presenters also emphasize the role of professional development in ensuring educators are prepared to meet these needs, and they share practical strategies for integrating the science of reading-based instruction into middle and high school classrooms. This session is a must-watch for district administrators aiming to foster a culture of literacy, support their teachers, and achieve transformative results for adolescent readers.

How to Solve the AI Plagiarism Problem: Process over Product
Wednesday February 26, 2025 10:15am - 10:45am MST
ChatGPT spawned the massive issue of \"AI plagiarism.\" Research shows 44% of secondary students are likely to use AI to do their schoolwork instead of doing it themselves. AI detectors fail to reliably catch this problem. What to do? Assess writing as a process, not just the paper! Scrible prevents AI plagiarism by making the entire writing process visible to teachers. It does for writing what we've always asked students to do in math - show your work. Come learn how this pedagogically sound approach - “process over product” - safeguards authentic learning and academic integrity.

Cut Through the AI Hype: Practical AI Strategies That Work
Wednesday February 26, 2025 3:15pm - 4:15pm MST
Tired of the flashy AI tools that promise the world but leave you more overwhelmed? This session is designed to help you cut through the noise and focus on what really works in your classroom. We’ll start by tackling the most draining parts of teaching—those repetitive tasks that take your energy away from the parts you love. Through live demonstrations and examples, you’ll learn practical AI strategies that can streamline your workflow and free you up to focus on what truly matters: teaching.  But it doesn’t stop there. AI is here to stay, and the best way we can prepare our students for the future is by equipping them with the human skills that AI can’t replace—critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and adaptability. In this session, we’ll explore why transdisciplinary education is key to future-proofing your students and how to implement it effectively, with hands-on demonstrations of what it can look like. You’ll leave with actionable strategies, grounded in real classroom examples, that you can apply immediately to transform your teaching and inspire your students to think and act beyond the textbook.  If you’re ready to rethink how AI can enhance both your teaching practice and your students’ future-readiness, this session is for you.
