Tech-Driven Strategies for ELD Listening and Speaking Mastery

Join SLCSD Secondary ELD Specialist & Language and Literacy Coach, Kenna Rodgers, and former UCET board member, Innovative Learning Coach, and current ELD teacher, Dany Macias, as they share their journey of using technology to help ELD students develop listening and speaking skills. In this session, participants will learn from the presenters' trial and error, lessons learned, and the effective use of rubrics to assess and improve student outcomes. Kenna and Dany will share how they used student performance data to create district goals specifically focused on strengthening listening and speaking skills in alignment with ELA standards and WIDA assessments. Attendees will explore practical applications of audio recordings, videos, and interactive presentations to enhance language instruction and assessment. Through their experience, the presenters will demonstrate how to utilize these tools for student self-assessment, real-time feedback, and fostering participation in live discussions. This session offers a unique opportunity to learn from real-world examples, backed by data-driven strategies and district-level goal setting. By the end of the session, teachers will leave with proven methods and a toolkit of resources to effectively integrate technology into their classrooms, ensuring ELD students engage in meaningful listening and speaking practice while making measurable progress.
